Many events are organized in this municipality throughout the year. In keeping with the maritime history of this fishing village, every-year during the first weekend in October the Marisco-Itsaski Azoka-Seafood Fair is held with being seafood being the principal attraction for natives and guests alike. Additionally there are local festivities held in each of the six districts all throughout the summer.

Among the variety of regional sporting traditions are Katxete bowling, a variety typical in the region, and sea rowing. Zierbena boasts one of the oldest sea-rowing clubs in Bizkaia, with a proud and glorious race record. Such is the passion for rowing that in the 19th century the municipal councils of Santurtzi and Zierbena entrusted their respective rowing teams, arraunlaris, with the resolution of a territory demarcation dispute-with a rowing race.
